Himesh Reshammiya - Get Off The TV Screen

It all began with the success Aashiq Banaya Aapne's title song. Now the man is all over the idiot box. He has four videos running from his own album. He was seen singing and dancing with Dino Morea, Emraan Hashmi and Udita Goswami in Aksar and now he has come again in Tom, Dick and Harry. I am just amazed at the success of the man. The fact is simple - his voice is terrible! And it does not help when the viewer has to see him with his cap and beard on every video.

Having said that, I must give credit to him where it is due. I think he has created some good songs. Compositions are good, the arrangements are rich but he should not continue singing. The songs would have been evergreen if he had got someone else to render the compositions. With his voice they would die a quick death.

And please, are we out of models and actors in this country that we have to see him again and again on every video? If the answer is 'yes', at least change the style!

Herd mentality and cashing in on success are big problems in the entertainment sector. Artistes do not realize the ramifications of these in the longer term.

Himesh the singer and a model will die a quick death. He should stick to what he is good at - composing music!
FICCI Frames - Any Impact On The Entertainment Sector?

FICCI, the Federation of Indian Chambers Of Commerce And Industry, has been organizing its conference on entertainment, Frames, for the last 6-7 years (if I remember corerctly). This is a great place to meet people from the sector for someone who is looking at building relationships - but has it facilitated any huge changes in the entertainment sector? I think not!

FICCI has been providing a platform for the entertainment sector to discuss key issues as well as laying out the initiatives for future reform. Year after year I have seen discussions revolve around similar themes, implying there is very little change happening.

The music sector is dying a slow death because of piracy and the Internet, the television industry has been crying for changes on distribution for a long time, including DTH, the film world is still very unstructured and fragmented. Can FICCI through Frames get partnerships formed of the private sector and the government to actually implement the things discussed in these conferences? If not, then we are in for similar discussions in the year 2007.

Having said that, there have been some changes but they are happening very slowly. The top 5 changes which I have seen in the last five years are the following

1. Significant growth of multiplexes with strong support of Government with tax rebates

2. Slow conversion of theaters into digital format.

3. Trickling of bank and venture financing for films

4. Change in licensing structures for the radio sector

5. Entry of big corporations in the last 5 years in various segments of the sector

I would love to hear people's thoughts on this and identify key changes which need to be implemented to really grow the entertainment sector like what has happened for the IT and software space.
