Nityananda and Sex Scandals

I don't understand the hue and cry over Swami Nityananda. Actually I do understand it. I just don't agree with it. It is plain ridiculous.

So a spiritual leader had sex with a Tamil film actress, and taped it. What is the big deal? Was it really an immoral act? Hypocritical, yes. But immoral?

If anything the ones who leaked the tapes should be arrested for violation of privacy laws. Shouldn't the TV channels be booked for hurting the sensibilities of both the man and woman who were engaged in consensual sexual intercourse. There was no exploitation here. At least only as much as is seen between any man of power and a woman who might be subservient to him.

He has been arrested on the following charges - Sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 376 (punishment for rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.

Well, arrest him for all the reasons that are truly illegal, like the possession of fake currencies and the likes, and accusations of sexual exploitation. But let not the 'sex scandal' corrupt the perception of the crimes that this man perpetrated. A 'sleazy' video in itself is not a crime in itself. Not if it wasn't meant to slander either participants or sold as pornography.

The media needs to stop this sensationalist journalism that preys on the voyeuristic tendencies of all. Hours of looped videos of a man and a woman have consensual sex on TV news channels is not proof of immorality. Just a sign of what everyone deep down under loves to watch, and the media knows that, having stuffed it down our throat for many years now.
